What is Embroidery?
Embroidery is the technique of decorating apparel with needle and thread. In centuries past, this method of decorated clothing showed signs of great wealth and prosperity. Technology has come a long way providing multiple head machines that can sew many garments at the same time. The design is converted to a digital format that the embroidery machine can read. This process is called digitizing and is a critical component to the success of a quality embroidered design. Once the machine is set with all colors of thread, the machine sews out the design. The cost is projected by the amount of stitches in a design.
Embroidery FAQ
What is the minimum for embroidery?
There is no minimum order quantity for embroidery. We’re happy to produce anything from a single item to large-scale runs.
That said, embroidery pricing is volume-based. The more items you order, the lower the cost per piece, as setup and production efficiencies are spread across the total quantity. Smaller orders may carry a higher per-item cost, while larger orders receive more favorable pricing.
If you’re unsure what quantity makes the most sense for your project or budget, our team is happy to help you find the best option.
Can you match a Pantone color with thread?
Embroidery thread does not have exact Pantone equivalents. While Pantone colors are designed for ink and print, embroidery uses dyed thread, which means an exact color match is not possible. We will always select the closest available thread color to your Pantone reference and use our experience to achieve the best visual match.
Please note that thread dye lots can vary slightly, and factors such as fabric color, stitch density, lighting, and garment material can all affect how a thread color appears once embroidered. Because of these variables, slight color variations are considered normal and acceptable.
Can I supply my own garments for embroidery?
Yes — you’re welcome to supply your own garments for embroidery. That said, when customer-supplied items are used, Torches Print Shop is not responsible for issues related to the garments themselves. This includes (but isn’t limited to) defects, dye migration, fabric performance, hoop marks, or damage that may occur during the embroidery process.
Embroidery is a mechanical process, and while we take great care with every order, variables such as fabric quality, previous washing, sizing, and garment construction are outside of our control when items are supplied by the customer. For this reason, all customer-provided garments are embroidered at the customer’s risk, and replacements or refunds cannot be issued for garment-related issues.
For the best results and peace of mind, we always recommend ordering garments through us whenever possible, as we are familiar with how specific styles and fabrics perform during embroidery.
What are your turnaround times, and will I see a sample sew-out?
Yes. Before production begins, you will receive an email with a digital sample sew-out for approval. If you prefer, you are also welcome to visit our shop to review the sew-out in person.
Once the sew-out is approved, standard production turnaround is typically 7–10 business days. Please note that turnaround times may increase during peak seasons or high-volume periods.
We’ll always communicate timelines clearly and let you know if your order may be affected by seasonal demand or scheduling constraints.
