What is Screen Printing?

Screen printing is the process where a stencil (or a screen) is created to make an image. The screen is usually made from polyester fabric that has small mesh holes and is coated with emulsion that is water-resistant. The logo or design is then “burned” into the screen so that ink will be pushed through only the mesh holes of the design area. Each screen is then used to print layers of ink to create an image since only one color of ink can be printed with each screen. Many screens may be used to print multi-colored designs. Screen printing can be very cost-effective especially for larger orders and most commonly used to print t-shirts. The inks can be matched to a Pantone color if requested and many specialty inks are available including puff, high-density, shimmers, and fluorescents.
